Keeping up with the Kardashians star Scott Disick became the topic of conversation and controversy on the social media platform after a picture of him dressed in an Arab costume for Halloween was posted on his Instagram account.
The picture was posted on Disick's Instagram account on Oct. 31 with the caption, "Happy Halloween! We getting Arab money tonight." In the photo, Disick stands in front of a home among two cars with his arms folded across his chest, wearing the costume in question. As of Sunday, the photo has received 433,000 likes.
Disick's choice of costume received comments on both ends of the spectrum, some to comment on the hilarity of the costume while others found it offensive.
"Scott [D]isick has the best [H]alloween costume hands down," Twitter user Jenelle Sellepack wrote on their account.
"Scott Disick's costume is the dopest[sic] one out there," Twitter user Daniel Samia wrote on their account, adding an emoji that had hearts for eyes paired with an emoji that looks like a person wearing a turban.
A Twitter user that uses the handle YostinaY wrote that Disick's costume was "culturally inappropriate."
"[W]hen will people understand that traditional clothes are [not] costumes," they wrote on Nov. 1.
"Congrats to Scott disick for having the most offensive costume I think I've ever seen and I'm not even from that culture," Twitter user Caitlin Ceynar wrote.
Disick is the boyfriend of Kourtney Kardashian, the eldest daughter of Kris Jenner. The couple have two children, Mason and Penelope, and are expecting a third, as we reported.
This is not the first time a celebrity has worn an offensive costume for Halloween. In an article for The Huffington Post, author Lauren Zupkus details celebrities that have worn controversial costumes in public, including singer Chris Brown dressed as a terrorist, model Heidi Klum dressed as the Goddess Kali and a number of celebrities dressed as Native Americans, including socialite Paris Hilton and singer/actress Aubrey O'Day.
