Keira Knightley surprised some of her fans by posing topless for the September issue of Interview magazine, but she wants to clear up her reasoning behind it.
Knightley is frankly sick of her body getting photoshopped, which she thinks sends the wrong issue to women. So in turn, she wanted to pose topless with the promise of no airbrushing or changes to show what she really looks like.
"I've had my body manipulated so many different times for so many different reasons, whether it's paparazzi photographers or for film posters,” she told The Times.
"And that [shoot] was one of the ones where I said: ‘OK, I'm fine doing the topless shot so long as you don't make them any bigger or retouch.' Because it does feel important to say it really doesn't matter what shape you are."
She went on to say “I think women’s bodies are a battleground and photography is partly to blame. Our society is so photographic now, it becomes more difficult to see all of those different varieties of shape.”
Knightley joined other famous faces for the September issue of Interview, which was called The Photographer’s Issue, such as Nicole Kidman, Naomi Campbell, Daria Werbowy, Amber Valetta and Lea Seydoux, Glamour reports.
The issue featured six photographers who chose their “ideal woman” as their subject.
