New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith is no stranger to being on the wrong side of the NBA rules. The league announced Wednesday that Smith is suspended one game for his hit on the Glen Rice Jr. in the Knicks’ 98-83 loss to the Washington Wizards on Tuesday.

The game Smith will be sidelined without pay will be New York’s Wednesday night road game against the Detroit Pistons.
In the fourth quarter of the game against Washington, Smith began to drive to the right. As he started to make his move, his left arm went into Rice’s groin. On the play, Rice was whistled for a blocking foul, reports Newsday.
Over the past year, he has received multiple punishments from the NBA. He sat out the first five games of the 2013-14 season for violating the league’s drug policy. Later in the season, he was fined $25,000 for a hostile social media post and $50,000 for untying opponents’ shoelaces on several occasions.
In four games so far this season, Smith have posted 7.5 points per game and a 38.7 field goal percentage. Both are career lows, reports The New York Times.
Smith should be able to return to the court Friday, when the Knicks take on the Brooklyn Nets at Barclays Center, according to ESPN.com.
