If you thought that things couldn’t get any more worse for the Los Angeles Lakers, you were wrong because they've now lost another player for the season. Guard/forward Xavier Henry will be out for the rest of the season due to a leg injury.
Henry was injured during practice on Monday. He was participating in three-on-three drills and tore his left Achilles tendon, according to the Los Angeles Times. An MRI confirmed the injury and Henry is scheduled to have surgery on Wednesday.
"Obviously, it brought practice straight down," Lakers coach Byron Scott said. "To know the kid the way I know him and how hard he's worked, obviously we're all very hurt for Xavier. He just made a move, like most guys do when they mess up their Achilles. Nobody hit him or anything like that. He went down and pretty much said to us that he heard a pop. We helped him in the locker room. Kobe [Bryant] and [Carlos] Boozer are in there with him, but obviously, he was devastated."
During the offseason Henry had surgery on his right knee and left wrist. In training camp he had to deal with back spasms. Early this season he had treatment on his knee in Germany.
Henry has struggled the past two seasons. In addition to playing with the Lakers, he has been rehabbing in the NBA Developmental League. For the year he was averaging 2.2 points and 9.6 minutes per game, according to Yahoo Sports. Henry becomes the third Laker player to be out for the rest of the season, joining Steve Nash and Julius Randle.
The Lakers are currently 3-11 and are having one of the worst seasons in franchise history.
