Contrary to the title, it’s no misfortune that Daniel Handler’s A Series of Unfortunate Events will be featured on Netflix as an original series. The popular day-wasting service announced its news on Wednesday, exciting Lemony Snicket fans about the future eerie series.

According to the Hollywood Reporter Netflix has acquired the rights to base their new program on the 13 bestselling novels, written by Daniel Handler, who’s alias is Lemony Snicket.

Paramount Pictures, credited with the production of the 2004 A Series of Unfortunate Events film starring Jim Carrey, will rightfully produce the adaptation, recognizing Handler as an executive producer.

A Series of Unfortunate Events follows orphans, Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire, on the eventful search to uncover the mysteries of their parents’ death. Throughout the series, they constantly fall as victims to the villainous behavior of the creepy Count Olaf. The book has sold more than 65 million copies, proving to most people the popularity of the future program. However, Snicket has expressed otherwise.

"After years of providing top-quality entertainment on demand, Netflix is risking its reputation and its success by associating itself with my dismaying and upsetting books," Handler declared, according to NY Daily News.

Luckily for Netflix subscribers, Cindy Holland, VP for Netflix’s original content, disagreed as she expressed, “The world created by Lemony Snicket is unique, darkly funny and relatable. We can't wait to bring it to life for Netflix members.”
