In game one of the NFL's Thanksgiving triple header, the Detroit Lions absolutely routed the Chicago Bears by the final score of 34-17.
The Bears jumped out to a strong start, finding themselves up 14-3 in the first quarter after two touchdowns thanks to the combination of QB Jay Cutler to WR Alshon Jeffery, notes CBS Sports. Soon thereafter, it was all Detroit and a Megatron kind of day.
In the second quarter, Detroit outscored Chicago 21-0 as Lions QB Matt Stafford led the Lions on three separate scoring drives. WR Calvin Johnson hauled in two TDs, 25-yards and six yards respectively. He finished the game with 11 receptions for 146 yards, and received the Phill Simms Iron-Man award following the game.
"Guys still believe in what we got going here," Johnson said after the game. "We had a good week of practice - it was a very short week, but we were very detailed in what we did on the field, coaches taking care of us. It's our part to come out here and do our job on the field," according to Associated Press.
RB Joique Bell provided the Lions with a solid rushing attack going for 91 yards and two TDs on 23 carries.
The Chicago running game, however, was non-existent with a very unimpressive 13 yards. Running back Matt Forte was a non-factor with only six of those yards. Detroit's defense was up to the task all day.
The Bears fall to 5 and 7 while the Lions improve to 8 and 4, just a half game behind the division leading Packers.
