While Netflix has stepped in to save one Warner Horizon Television show, efforts to keep another one alive have ended. Longmire will live on, but Dallas is officially done.
A&E cancelled Longmire in August after three seasons. The show struggled in the ratings, but Warner Horizon immediately announced plans to take it elsewhere because of its loyal following.
It turns out that the “Save Longmire” campaign worked, as Netflix announced on Wednesday that it has picked up the show. It stars Robert Taylor, Bailey Chase, Katee Sackhoff and Lou Diamond Phillips.
“When Warner Horizon Television came to us with the idea for a new season of Longmire, we were intrigued because the series is so unique, and consistently great. We are thrilled to help continue Walt Longmires story for his large and passionate following,” Cindy Holland, Vice President of Original Content at Netflix, said in a statement.
The new season will feature 10 episodes and will debut next year.
Meanwhile, Dallas, which TNT cancelled earlier this year, will not be saved. The revival of one of TV’s most iconic series lasted three seasons and ended on a cliffhanger. But, according to Deadline, the story of the Ewing clan will not continue.
In a letter to fans posted by Dallas Decoder, executive producers Cynthia Cidre and Michael Robin gave the sad news.
“After a 6-week attempt to try and land our beloved Dallas at another network, we have to inform you that we have not succeeded,” the letter reads in part. “Warner Horizon has attempted, in a Herculean way, to try and find us a new home, but at the end of the day it did not work out.”
