OneRepublic’s Ryan Tedder wrote a song for his 4-year-old son, Copeland Cruz, which is now being used to help fight AIDS.
People reported that the band is working with Coca-Cola and RED, which is an organization that works to raise awareness through fundraising in order to in the elimination of the AIDS virus. They are releasing a remixed version of the song “I Lived,” a song from their album Native that came out last year.
Tedder spoke to People and told them, “The whole idea, to quote the late great Robin Williams from Dead Poets Society, is very much ‘carpe diem.’ That’s the song- that’s what it’s about.”
U2 frontman Bono founded the organization and is close with Tedder.
KPopStarz notes the song was released on Nov. 24. In terms of working with Bono, Tedder said, “The synergy was just kind of a no-brainer in this situation.”
The proceeds towards the song will be going toward The Global Fund in order to help their efforts in fighting against not only AIDS, but also malaria and tuberculosis.
DJ Dave Aude remixed the song and Tedder says that, “it’s absolutely universal and applicable to everybody.” Tedder also revealed that his son knows the song was written for him and he is a huge fan of the song, even though he doesn’t understand the concept and subtext behind the song.
