The Washington Redskins have decided to bench starting quarterback Robert Griffin III for Week 13 against the Indianapolis Colts.

ESPN reported that sources have confirmed that Redskins head coach Jay Gruden told the team Wednesday that Griffin is being benched in favor of Colt McCoy.

The Washington Post noted that this move comes after Gruden told the media that he needed to check the film and evaluate the quarterback.

“It’s Monday afternoon at 3 o’clock, and right now, we have every intent for Robert, but we’ll look at the tape and make our evaluations here shortly,” he said.

The situation in Washington has been pretty much a soap opera all year. After going down with a knee injury in Week 2, Kirk Cousins replaced the injured Griffin. But after five weeks and not much winning, he was yanked for McCoy.

Fans did not expect much from the former University of Texas star against the Dallas Cowboys, but McCoy played well and the team won 20-17. In the next game though, the Skins went back to Griffin and have not won a game since.

The former first round pick is reportedly not a favorite in the locker room and if McCoy ends up winning games, things could get even more interesting. What the future holds for RGIII then will be anybody’s guess.
