The Houston Texans have decided to make a change at quarterback. After Ryan Fitzpatrick guided the team to a 4-5 record through the first nine games of the season, head coach Bill O’Brien announced that Ryan Mallet will take over the quarterbacking duties.

Mallet, who is in his first year with the organization, backed up Tom Brady with the New England Patriots for the first three seasons in the NFL.
"Watching Ryan in practice, I really believe he's gotten better and better," O' Brien said, according to NFL.com. "His huddle command, his knowledge of our offense. He's really been in the system for four years, he was drafted in 2011. Obviously he backed up Tom (Brady) for three years and came in here to back up Ryan (Fitzpatrick) and I think he's made a lot of progress."
O’Brien and Mallet were together with the Patriots when O’Brien served as the offensive coordinator.
In Mallet’s three years in New England, he appeared in four games, completing just one pass for 17 yards, reports The New York Daily News.
Houston acquired Mallet on Aug. 31 for a conditional seventh-round pick in the 2016 NFL Draft.
The Texans have a bye this week. Mallet’s first game as the starter is scheduled to be Nov. 16 on the road against the Cleveland Browns, according to ESPN.com.
