Hats must be very important in the 2015 Sherlock special, because they are both prominently featured in the first still from the episode. Oh, and both Martin Freeman and Benedict Cumberbatch are in there, too.
Actually, part of Cumberbatch was missing in the original version of the still. When it was first posted by the BBC and producer Sue Vertue, an obvious Photoshop error made it look like Cumberbatch’s left arm was missing. Later, the BBC tweeted a corrected version, which showed that Cumberbatch does indeed have two arms.
However, as E! News points out, some fans began to speculate what the picture showed, keeping in mind that Sherlock’s arm was “missing.” One person wrote, “Sherlock Christmas special: The case of the missing shoulder and how it found its way back to its owner.”
Perhaps losing an arm was the real tragedy Mark Gatiss mentioned recently?
In addition to a 2015 special, the BBC announced over the summer that it will be followed by a full fourth season.
The series stars Freeman as Dr. Watson and Cumberbatch as Sherlock Holmes in modern London, although they look very Victorian in the new image.
