With 13 months to go before its release, Disney and Lucasfilm have finally released a title for Star Wars: Episode VII for fans to think about.
Walt Disney Pictures sent a tweet moments ago, announcing that the movie has finished principal photography. An included image shows the title - Star Wars: The Force Awakens.
That’s certainly not a spoiler-ish title, as it doesn’t tell you what character the movie would be focusing on. However, it does make it clear that Episode VII will be starting a new cycle and of course, the Force will be at its center. Obviously, that has to be the case, since the Force “binds the galaxy together,” as Obi-Wan said.
The news comes a full year after Disney announced that the film will get an unusual Dec. 18, 2015 release. All previous Star Wars films were released in May.
The Force Awakes will take place 30 years after Return of the Jedi, with Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher and Harrison Ford all returning. Lupita Nyong’o, Oscar Isaac, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Adam Driver are among the new stars. J.J. Abrams is directing.
One thing we definitely know is that there will be some scenes on Tatooine, since some filming took place in Abu Dhabi. Studio-bound production took place in London.
Rian Johnson will be taking over directing for Episode VIII and will write Episode IX.
