New York Times reported that Sting will be joining the cast of the show on Dec. 9th and will be performing eight shows a week until Jan. 10th. Ticket sales have been low for the production, so Sting joining the cast might be an effort to attract his large fan base.

Sting wrote all of the music and even set the show close to home. Entertainment Weekly reported that the show is set in the hometown of "Field of Gold" singer, Wallsend which is in the North East of England.

The show has been receiving mixed reviews from critics. The show itself has been losing over $75,000 a week since it opened on Sept. 29th. The musical cost a reported $15 million to produce and put on.

Sting addressed the fact that he was joining the production to save the show. “I’ve been working on this show for five years and been at every rehearsal, every performance, so it’s not like I’ve flown in from Planet Rock Star to save the day, explained Sting.
