Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson’s son, Chet Hanks, revealed on Instagram earlier this month that he did go to rehab for a cocaine addiction and is now sober. Chet, 24, only made the revelation after learning that a tabloid was about to report it.
Chet posted a short video on Instagram last week, confirming that an upcoming report by Star magazine is true. He does have a cocaine addiction and did go to rehab. However, he is 50 days sober and “clean from everything - including alcohol.” He added, “I don't give a f**k what people think. F**k the media.”
As E! News points out, Chet added a lengthy caption to the video, explaining that he has been dealing with substance abuse since he was 16.
“I'm thankful for my family and everybody that cares about me, including my fans,” he continued. “I've been blessed with the programs of AA and NA which allow me to rise above this disease. I'm learning to accept my faults and be ok with being human. If anybody that sees this struggles with addiction, feel free to reach out. Thank you all for the love and support! GOD IS REAL!!!”
Chet is an aspiring rapper and will be releasing an EP early next year. His siblings are actor Colin Hanks and Elizabeth Ann Hanks from the Saving Mr. Banks actor’s first marriage, and Truman Hanks.
