It’s hard to believe, but it has been 25 years since The Little Mermaid came out in theaters in November of 1989. I can remember watching the movie over and over again as a little girl, most likely belting out the lyrics to many of the amazing songs. The songs are recognizable even today and Sebastian the crab and Ursula are just some of the creatures of the sea we remember for all time.

While there weren’t a lot of songs that were sung vocally in the movie, there were plenty of beautiful songs that came with the soundtrack. They all blended together with the backdrop of what was happening in the film itself and the story told us a tale of finding our way from one place and moving on to somewhere we would like to explore.

TheCelebrityCafe.com wanted to celebrate the joy The Little Mermaid has brought to us ever since the moment we saw the film for the first time. What song do you enjoy hearing the most from the movie?

10. Les Poissons

"Les Poissons" may be short, but it takes place in the kitchen as Sebastian the crab watches in horror as the chef chops up multiple fishes. The song is silly to listen to, especially with the animated movements of the cook.

9. Fathoms Below

"Fathoms Below" is one of the first songs we hear when we are introduced to Eric and while it is brief, it is a good introduction to the pirates of the sea.

4. Part Of your World

The first time we hear Ariel sing this song, she is in the ocean with Flounder talking about wanting to see what land is like. It really introduces her longing for finding a place outside of the ocean.

3. Kiss The Girl

The most romantic song of this movie possibly, Sebastian sings this in an attempt to show Eric who Ariel is and to make his move.

2. Flotsam and Jetsam

The song is composed of instrumentals, but since it is named after Ursula’s minions and has a great beat, it is one of the best songs on The Little Mermaid soundtrack.

1. Under The Sea

The most recognizable song from The Little Mermaid, “Under The Sea” actually won an Academy Award for Best Original Song back in 1989.
