Comedian Tracy Morgan may never be the same, following a June car crash in New Jersey that killed fellow comic James McNair. His lawyer said on Tuesday that he is still fighting and it’s unknown if he will ever be “the Tracy Morgan he once was.”
“He's fighting to get better, and if there's a chance for him to be back to the Tracy Morgan he once was, he's going to try to do that,” Morelli said, reports The Associated Press. “But we just don't know because of the severity of the injuries that he sustained and the fact that he had such a severe brain injury.”
Morelli confirmed that Morgan did suffer a traumatic brain injury in the crash. The former Saturday Night Live cast member also suffered a broken leg, nose and ribs.
Attorney Benedict Morelli made the statements in a New Jersey courtroom for a scheduling conference in the former 30 Rock star’s lawsuit against Wal-mart. Morgan did not attend the hearing.
Morgan is suing the retailer, since it employed Kevin Roper, the truck driver behind the wheel of the vehicle that struck Morgan’s limo on June 7. Roper is facing vehicular homicide and pleaded not guilty, however, he is not named as a defendant in Morgan’s lawsuit. Roper is asking that Morgan’s lawsuit be delayed until after his case begins. The target=_blank>Daily News reports that a judge will decide that matter on Dec. 15.
Morgan, 46, was supposed to start filming on a new FX series, but that project has been delayed indefinitely as he recovers.
