HBO has surprisingly said very little about True Detective’s second season and the network still hasn’t confirmed who the female lead will be played by. Indeed, this has cause some to wonder if the show could really be back by summer 2015.
Since Vince Vaughn and Colin Farrell were confirmed in September, HBO hasn’t made any other casting officially. It is widely expected that Rachel McAdams will play the female lead detective, but, again, there’s been no word from HBO, writer/creator Nic Pizzolatto or McAdams. Taylor Kitsch did say that he’s got a part, but HBO surprisingly didn’t respond to his remarks.
Meanwhile, Hollywood sites have reported that the supporting cast is being assembled. The actors who joined last month were Abigail Spencer, Kelly Reilly, Michael Irby and Leven Rambin.
Last week, Deadline reported that Lolita Davidovich (The Longest Ride, Fox’s upcoming Backstrom) and James Frain (Invaders) have joined the cast. Davidovich got the part of Nancy Simpson, a former showgirl depressed by the lack of male attention she gets. Frain was cast as a police lieutenant.
Considering the lack of official word from HBO, it’s almost no surprise that Mashable is reporting that the second season might be delayed. The site reports that shooting hasn’t started yet and even if it began this week, it would be really hard to get the show ready by this summer.
Pizzolatto is writing all eight episodes of True Detective season two. Unlike season one though, there will be multiple directors. Justin Lin is confirmed for the first two episodes.
