On a snowy Saturday afternoon, the Wisconsin Badgers defeated the Nebraska Cornhuskers. The 59-24 final score was the secondary story however, as Nebraska RB Melvin Ingram broke the single-game rushing record with 408 yards.
On the final play of the third quarter, Ingram scampered into the end-zone for a 26-yard TD which was the official record breaker, according to CBS Sports. TCU's LaiDanian Tomlinson was the man at the top of the list coming into today as he rushed for 406 yards all the way back in 1999 against a poor UTEP team.
Gordon's performance was impressive in so many more ways than Tomlinson's. Nebraska was sporting an 8-1 record coming into this one. Nebraska also possessed a top-20 rush defense nationally, only allowing three rushes of more than 35-yards all season.
Gordon spoke after the game: "Yeah, I didn't even know I was close to the record," Gordon said, via the AP. "I was kind of just running away," according to the AP.
Tomlinson took to Twitter to congratulate the Heisman Trophy candidate:
