The winner of the Starz series The Chair was announced but producer on the series Zachary Quinto is not pleased with the film that won the grand prize.
From the creators of Project Greenlight, The Chair is a documentary series that follows two aspiring directors as they compete to create films based on the same script.
YouTube star Shane Dawson's faced off against Anna Martemucci in the competition. Dawson's film Not Cool received more votes and won the grand prize of $250,000. Quinto worked with both filmmakers during the process but is apparently not cool with Dawson's movie.
“When we watched Shane’s movie yesterday, I was depressed for a couple of hours at least,” Quinto told Xfinity. "I found it deeply offensive...it’s not something in any version or by any stretch of my imagination that I can ever put my name on or be associated with.”
Quinto ended up taking his name off of Not Cool as a producer and also criticized Dawson's lack of desire to collaborate and listen to advice from other filmmakers on the show. However, Dawson insists that it was Quinto who did not want to collaborate with him.
“It’s a little embarrassing on his behalf, because he literally didn’t do anything,” Dawson told the Observer. “He didn’t return my emails, he didn’t show up, he had no interest in working with me. I don’t have any hatred or bitterness towards him — well maybe a little bitterness — but to say I didn’t collaborate just showed how out of touch he was with the making of my movie.”
Quinto hopes that with his $250,000 prize, Dawson will continue to deepen his experience as a filmmaker.
