Former New England Patriots tight end Aaron Hernandez is set to appear in court on Friday for a final motion hearing before his murder trial begins.
The Associated Press reported that Hernandez is due back in Bristol Superior Court before the trial in the Odin Lloyd murder case gets underway. The 25-year-old is accused of killing the semi-professional football player in 2013. The victim’s body was found in an industrial park near the athlete’s home.
This is the first of two murder trials for the former NFL star. He is also accused of fatally shooting two men outside of a Boston nightclub after having an altercation with them inside.
That trial, which was originally set to begin in May, has been delayed.
Hernandez's lawyers are asking a judge to bar prosecutors from using evidence pertaining to the double murder in the first trial.
Jury selection for the Lloyd case will start on Jan. 5 and prosecutors have said that Patriots owner Robert Kraft and head coach Bill Belichick are down as potential witnesses.
Hernandez has plead not guilty to the charges against him.
