Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back is coming back as a live script read, with a unique cast of famous actors playing familiar characters.
Jason Reitman will direct the live reading of the script to the famous Star Wars film, according to SlashFilm. Reitman had directed other live script readings before, and he’s hired famous actors including Aaron Paul and J.K Simmons to play roles during the read.
Entertainment Weekly reported that Paul will play Luke Skywalker, and Simmons will play Darth Vader. Reitman said to the publication that he wanted somebody who displayed different characteristics than Mark Hamill’s portrayal; somebody who could be more embittered about his adventure than the Luke Skywalker everybody knows.
As for Simmons as Darth Vader, Reitman told EW that the Whiplash actor could be caring and nasty at the same time. Reitman explained that the character of Vader was similar, in that he would harm his son but not do anything deadly to him. Other actors Reitman cast in the script read were Stephen Merchant as C-3P0, Dennis Haysbert as Lando Calrissian, and Kevin Pollak as Yoda.
SlashFilm stated that actors to portray Han Solo and Princess Leia weren’t cast yet.
