Amazon said on Monday that it has added HBO Go to its Amazon Fire TV streaming platform. The service will also be available on the Fire TV Stick in the spring.

All HBO Go content will be searchable with Fire TV’s voice search function. However, its content will only be available if you have an HBO Go subscription with a cable or satellite provider that participates allows you to use the service on Internet TV platforms.

“We’re thrilled to add HBO GO, the most requested service, to Fire TV in time for the holidays,” Peter Larsen, Vice President Amazon Devices, said in a statement. “HBO has produced some of the most groundbreaking and award-winning TV shows and movies, and we are excited to bring this amazing content to our customers, all of which is accessible via voice search on your Fire TV remote.”

The move comes just as HBO is expected to have its stand-alone version of HBO Go available by April, just in time for the new season of Game of Thrones. While HBO Go had only been available previously to those who paid extra on their cable or satellite bills, the stand-alone HBO Go will allow anyone to subscribe, similar to Netflix or Hulu.

“We’re thrilled to add this platform to the suite of HBO GO viewing options, offering our subscribers compelling new experiences like Amazon’s unified voice search,” Jeff Dallesandro, Vice President of, Digital Domestic Network Distribution for HBO, added.

Amazon is selling the Fire TV platform for $79 this week to celebrate the deal with HBO. The Fire TV Stick won’t be in stock again until January though and sells for $39.
