It’s hard to avoid spoilers these days, especially when a network reveals the shocking moment itself. Since AMC made that mistake Sunday night during The Walking Dead’s mid-season finale, the network has apologized.
Before the episode even finished airing on the West Coast, the network’s official Walking Dead Facebook page posted an image of Daryl (Norman Reedus) carrying the body of Beth (Emily Kinney) with the headline “RIP Beth.” According to Entertainment Weekly, the image showed up at 10 p.m., the exact minute the first airing ended on the East Coast.
Later, the network posted an apology, vowing to make sure that spoilers like that don’t show up, at least before the episode airs on the West Coast.
“Please know we’re going to work to ensure that, in the future, possible spoilers by official AMC social feeds are killed before they can infect, certainly before the West Coast (U.S.) broadcast of The Walking Dead,” the statement reads. “As always, thank you for watching, and keep the comments coming. We appreciate all of your support.”
AMC has made this mistake before. Two years ago, a commercial for a DVD release revealed that Shane (Jon Bernthal) was killed.
