Angelina Jolie had a pretty bad week, from being insulted in leaked Sony emails to being shut out of the Golden Globes. To cap that all off, she won’t be able to attend events for Unbroken in the next few weeks because of chicken pox.
In a video posted by Universal Pictures, Jolie explained that she just learned this week that she has chicken pox. She didn’t say exactly how long she will be MIA from the red carpet and other press events, but the studio noted that, “She intends to resume her schedule and press engagements at the earliest opportunity.”
“So, I will be home, itching and missing everyone. And I can’t believe it because this film means so much to me,” Jolie said, with a chuckle. “I just can’t believe it, but such is life. There it is. But, send everyone my love and I hope it goes well.”
This really does finish off an odd week for Jolie, whose Unbroken was expected to be a major awards player this winter. She was surprisingly shut out at the Golden Globes nominations. Jack O’Connell, who plays World War II POW Louis Zamperini in the film, wasn’t nominated at the Golden Globes or SAG Awards.
In addition, leaked emails between producer Scott Rudin and Sony Pictures co-chair Amy Pascal revealed how they really felt about her, which lead to an awkward encounter with Pascal during the week.
Unbroken hits theaters on Christmas Day. We wish Jolie a speedy recovery.
