Ashanti faced a man who’s been stalking her since 2009, Devar Hurd, in court on Tuesday. Hurd acted as his own lawyer and cross-examined the singer and actress.

Ashanti, her mom Tina Douglas and 24-year-old sister Kenashia Douglas, 24, all took the witness stand during the hearing. Hurd has been charged with stalking and criminal contempt and spent two years in jail for stalking her already.

Hurd struggled to ask the singer relevant questions and was reprimanded several times for it. He has broken court orders by allegedly sending Ashanti and her family explicit messages on Twitter.

“In person you seem like, you know, a very nice guy. You come off that way,” Ashanti’s sister, Kenashia, told him. “But when you go home... you begin to tweet things that are inappropriate, talking about my body and the things you want to do to me that makes me feel unsafe,” Daily News reports.
After getting admonished by Manhattan Supreme Court Justice Daniel Conviser, the judge threatened to turn the case over to his legal adviser, Michael Fineman.

New York Times reports Ashanti said “it was horrible” when she left court on Tuesday.
