Bollywood actress Gauhar Khan was left shocked on stage during the filming of a reality show in Mumbai when a man rushed onto the stage to slap her, allegedly because of her short dress.
Khan was hosting India’s Raw Star when a 24-year-old man ran onto the stage, managing to escape 250 security guards in the theater, notes The Mirror. He slapped her in the face, leaving her clearly traumatized, a video taken just after the incident shows.
Akil Malik was charged with molestation and is set to appear in court today. He allegedly told police, “Being a Muslim woman, she should not have worn such a short dress.”
A source told the Hindustan Times that even after security pulled Malik away from Khan, she was still crying and didn’t understand what was happening. Filming of the singing competition was stopped for an hour and then continued.
As the BBC notes, Khan has made over a dozen movies and won a season of Big Boss, the Indian version of Big Brother, in 2013.
