Milwaukee Bucks forward Jabari Parker suffered a season-ending knee injury in the third quarter of Monday night’s 96-94 win over the Phoenix Suns.
The Milwaukee-Wisconsin Journal Sentinel noted that the team confirmed Parker suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee.
The injury occurred when he took an awkward step and collided with Suns player P.J. Tucker. Parker immediately grabbed his knee and needed to be helped off the court.
The team announced Tuesday evening that he will have surgery and miss the remainder of the season.
The former Duke star was the second-overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft and has averaged 12.3 points and 5.5 rebounds per game this year. He seemed to excel in new coach Jason Kidd’s offense and a team that only won 15 games last season, was off to an above .500 13-12 start.
Milwaukee’s next game is Wednesday in Portland.
After news of Parker’s injury broke, several athletes sent him prayers and well wishes via Twitter.
