Donald Glover, best known for his role on Community, has written, produced, and will star in a new series for FX called Atlanta.
Contact Music reports that the series focuses on Glover’s character, Earnest Marks, who decides to make it big as a rap artist after his cousin finds fame overnight. He has been working on the project for quite some time, as he first approached FX about the series a year ago.
Deadline reports that Glover himself grew up in the city where the series is set and he also has a career in music as hip hop artist Childish Gambino. Paul Simms, known for his work on Girls, and Dianne McGunigle will also service as executive producers with Glover.
Nick Grad with FX said that Glover “is a uniquely talented actor and performer who brings real-life experience to this subject matter. He, along with Paul Simms, has a very honest, sometimes serious, and funny perspective on life, the world of rap music and the city of Atlanta.”
Glover also wrote for the NBC show 30 Rock and as Childish Gambino, he has two Grammy nominations for Best Rap Album (Because The Internet) and Best Rap Performance for his song “3005.”
