Members of Green Day announced that their guitarists Jason White was recently diagnosed with tonsil cancer.
According to People, the announcement was made on the band’s official web page, in which they wrote that they wanted to give the news out before other media outlets caught wind.
The statement read, “Jason recently underwent a routine tonsillectomy, and his doctors discovered a treatable form of tonsil cancer. Thankfully they caught it early and he should make a full and speedy recovery.”
Fans of the band have taken to Twitter to express their wishes for White as he recovers.
New York Daily News reported that White, 41, has been with the band since 1999. He was credited as a full-time member of the band in 2012.
Rolling Stone also reported that White has also done guitar work for the group’s other side projects, named the Network and Foxboro Hot Tubs.
In April of next year, the band will be inducted into the Rock N’ Roll Hall of Fame.
