Hugh Hefner is the latest celebrity to fall victim to a death hoax. He confirmed he was alive when he took to Twitter about the Playboy mansion’s movie screening of American Sniper.

A website called nbctoday.co ran a story about the 88-year-old Playboy founder’s death and it didn’t take long for it go viral over the weekend.

Hefner didn’t directly tweet about the hoax, but he did retweet a funny post from another Twitter user which read “I Googled @hughhefner and it said he died but still made it to movie night. Lol. The internet is an odd place sometimes.”

His wife, Crystal Hefner, also posted a photo of herself with the mogul and two other women, proving he’s alive.

She also shared a telling quote, tweeting, “A lie can run around the world before the truth has got it's boots on. #QuoteOfTheDay.”

One of the more recent death hoaxes came last month when it was reported that Macaulay Culkin had died. He responded in a funny way, by posting a tribute to Weekend at Bernie’s.
