Country star Jennifer Nettles, who is part of the band known as Sugarland, will be getting a Broadway role in the play Chicago.
According to People, the announcement was made on The Today Show and Nettles took to her Twitter account to share the news to her followers as well. This is her debut on Broadway and she will play the role of Roxie Hart. She will star in the show from February 2 to March 29.
The movie version of the popular Broadway classic starred Renee Zellweger as Hart while Catherine Zeta-Jones played Velma.
Another country star who once starred in Broadway was Reba McEntire, who starred in the Annie Get Your Gun revival.
Rolling Stone reported the news comes after Nettles joined Idina Menzel for the CMA Country Christmas special, where the two shared a duet together. The show will take place in New York City’s Ambassador Theater.
Nettles released her first album as a solo artist early this year titled That Girl and it reached the top of the charts for the country genre.
Tickets for the show can be found through Telecharge and are on sale.
