Krysten Ritter might be happy after all that her NBC sitcom was cancelled before it aired. She’s joining the Marvel family now, starring as Jessica Jones in a Netflix series.
The casting was first reported by Deadline and also confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter. However, Netflix, Marvel and Ritter have not commented on the reports.
Jessica Jones is among the four series Disney and Marvel agreed to produce for Netflix. The first, Daredevil, is expected to premiere in 2015, with Charlie Cox in the title role. The four series will culminate in a mini-series about The Defenders.
Like Daredevil, Jessica Jones will run 13 episodes. The two other lesser-known Marvel heroes that will get shows are Iron Fist and Luke Cage.
Jessica Jones will be overseen by Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight, ). The character is a cynical superhero who suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder, so she decides to retire from being a hero. She then begins her own detective agency to help other heroes.
Deadline also reports that Ritter did a reading with Mike Colter of The Following, since he is being considered for Luke Cage.
Ritter starred in ABC’s Don’t Trust The B---- In Apt. 23 and had a role in Breaking Bad. She stars in Tim Burton’s new film, Big Eyes. She was set to star in an NBC series called Mission Control this midseason, but it was canned before it started.
