Parenthood might be ending this season, but that doesn’t mean that Lauren Graham is leaving NBC. In fact, the actress has just booked a lead part in Kate on Later, a sitcom pilot about a woman hoping to be the first to host a late-night talk show.

The project will be produced by someone who definitely knows a thing or two about talk shows: Ellen DeGeneres. She’s producing under her A Very Good Productions banner, which is based at Warner Bros. TV, notes Deadline. NBC has put in a script commitment.

Kate on Later will be written by Graham and Liz Tuccillo, who will both co-executive produce, reports Entertainment Weekly.

The series focuses on Kate, who has a day job but is suddenly given an opportunity to host a broadcast network’s late night talk show. Of course, a woman has never done so in real life, so the plot remains relevant. (In fact, despite CBS and NBC both changing late night hosts this year, neither hired a woman to host a show.)

Kate is the second A Very Good Production picked up by NBC. I Hate My Teenage Daughter team Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer sold an untitled multi-camera pilot.

Graham currently stars on Parenthood, which will be ending after six seasons. She also starred on Gilmore Girls and was seen on the big screen in It’s Kind of a Funny Story.
