Mel B has broken her silence on the rumors that her husband, Stephen Belafonte, had physically abused her and even gave some insight into why she didn’t deny them at first.
“For the record my hubby never would lay a hand on me sorry took so long but any response fuels rumors,” she wrote on Instagram on Sunday along with a photo of herself and Belafonte..
As we previously reported, the former Spice Girls singer’s daughter, Phoenix, also denied the rumors on her own Instagram account.
"Can everyone just chill he didn't hit my mom don't know how that stupid rumor came up,” she wrote.
The rumors started when Mel B was hospitalized and had to miss a taping of The X Factor. When she returned, she appeared bruised and fans automatically assumed her husband was responsible.
He denied the rumors right away on Twitter, calling them “disgusting.”
However, there was some confusion when he said he was “not disputing” the rumors that they had split.
