The activity during this offseason hasn't slowed down one bit. Actually, it's ramping up as teams we thought of as major players are turning out to be quiet, while others are surprising us in the most shocking ways.
Yet another day passes where the New York Yankees have done very little to add to their roster. In fact, most are arguing that the move they made today hurt the roster. They shipped infielder Martin Prado and pitcher David Phelps to the Miami Marlins for Pitcher Nathan Eovaldi, infielder Garret Jones and pitcher Domingo German, notes to CBS Sports.
A surprising move from New York's point of view as many thought general manager Brian Cashman took a strong liking to Prado's clubhouse leadership.
While the Yankees surprisingly remain relatively quiet with no big splashes to speak of, the San Diego Padres keep the heat on the rest of the league. Today, they acquired yet another slugging outfielder this week by acquiring Justin Upton from the Atlanta Braves. They sent pitcher Max Fried, infielders Justin Peterson and Jace Peterson, outfielder Mallex Smith and international bonus compensation to the Atlanta Braves for Upton and pitcher Aaron Northcraft, according to ESPN.
Upton will fill out a very much improved San Diego outfield with recently acquired Matt Kemp and Wil Myers. All three are considered corner outfielders, so the Padres will have to fit the puzzle when the time comes.
Reports have surfaced that the New York Mets are in active conversation with the Colorado Rockies for short-stop Troy Tulowitzki. It's widely known that Tulowitzki wants to play for the Yankees, but since they aren't interested, will the other team in New York suffice?
