We finally know when Leslie Knope’s story will end. NBC’s beloved Parks and Recreation will begin its final season in January and will take just seven weeks to run through.
NBC has decided to shift the series to Tuesdays, beginning at Jan. 13. The network hopes to turn this into a major event, so two episodes will air each night, beginning at 8 p.m. The series finale will air on Tuesday, Feb. 24 following The Voice.
“In an effort to give it the send-off it deserves, we wanted to ‘eventize’ the final season to maximize the impact of these episodes, which really do take the show to a new level,” NBC Entertainment chairman Robert Greenblatt said in a statement. “The highly-anticipated one-hour finale will air behind The Voice in order to lead the largest audience possible into what promises to be a very special hour of television.”
Expect to hear a lot about the series’ end during the Golden Globes on NBC on Jan. 11, especially since star Amy Poehler is hosting the ceremony with Tina Fey. Poehler won a Golden Globe earlier this year for her role as Leslie Knope.
Parks and Rec was created by Mike Schur and Greg Daniels. It is set in the fictional Indiana town of Pawnee, where Leslie is hoping to make life better for her neighbors, despite the challenges she faces. Co-stars include Adam Scott, Nick Offerman, Chris Pratt, Aziz Ansari, Retta, Jim O’Heir and Aubrey Plaza. While the series has never been a ratings blockbuster, it is beloved by its fans and critics.
Last month, we learned that Jon Hamm, Rob Lowe and Rashida Jones will return to the series. Megan Mullally and Natalie Morales are also set to appear.
