Nicki Minaj is opening up about tense race issues following the deaths of Michael Brown and Eric Garner, calling it a sad day we live in that outspoken celebrities like Kanye West aren’t speaking out anymore.
The Pink Print rapper believes law enforcement has “no accountability” in these deaths considering grand juries decided not to indict both officers.
"It's sickening, and I've been reading so many people saying, 'Why are we surprised?' That's what's really sad: that we should somehow be used to being treated like animals," she told Rolling Stone.
"It's gotten to the point where people feel like there's no accountability: If you are law enforcement and you do something to a black person, you can get away with it."
She cited West, saying “look what happened” to him when he declared President George W. Bush was a racist on live television in 2005 during a telethon to raise money for victims of Hurricane Katrina.
"He was the unofficial spokesman for hip-hop, and he got torn apart," she said.
West later apologized to President Bush, saying on the Today show he “didn't have the grounds” to say those words.
“You haven't heard him [Kanye] speaking about these last couple things, and it's sad,” continued Minaj. "Because how many times can you be made to feel horrible for caring about your people before you say, 'F--k it, it's not worth it, let me live my life because I'm rich, and why should I give a f--k?'"
