Don’t worry movie fans, Kirk Douglas is not dead, despite what People Magazine reported last night. The magazine accidentally published an obituary for the legendary actor, who celebrates his 98th birthday next week.
People obviously didn’t intend to publish the obituary, since it went live with the headline “DO NOT PUB Kirk Douglas Dies.” According to Variety, the post showed up on Sunday night. Of course, the mistake was quickly picked up on Twitter, with several jokes posted about the fact that the Spartacus star is still around.
Gawker points out that it looks like the magazine has been ready for Douglas’ death since September. Although it went live on Sunday, the post was dated Sept. 29.
Eventually it was taken down, but you can still read it on this archive site.
Douglas turns 98 on Dec. 9. The Daily Mail spotted Douglas walking around Los Angeles in August, so he's doing well.
And, in case you were wondering, Abe Vigoda is also still alive.
