Stephen Colbert had a unique guest come on Thursday night, and he wasn’t human.

Smaug, the villainous dragon from The Hobbit films, appeared for an interview with the host of The Colbert Report, according to the Wall Street Journal. Smaug, played in the interview and films by Benedict Cumberbatch, answered questions presented by Colbert that included his views on other dragons in current films and TV, as well as make some surprising reveals about himself.

WSJ also reported that Colbert revealed that Smaug was known for eating the host after he gave an interview. Smaug reassured him that that wouldn’t happen, since he had already devoured the hosts of The View.

Ironically, Smaug also said he had never read the original Hobbit novel by J.R.R Tolkien, according to The Wrap, and he didn’t want any plot points to be spoiled. He also criticized the dragons featured in Game of Thrones and even Toothless from the How To Train Your Dragon films. He would also throw nasty remarks at Martin Freeman and Orlando Bloom, who co-star with him in the film, and even Cumberbatch himself.

Peter Jackson directed Colbert’s interview scene, according to WSJ.
