A companion book for the critically acclaimed FX series Sons of Anarchy was supposed to be released to bookstores after the series finale aired this week. However, since the book is already published and sitting in warehouses, some stores and even consumers received it early.

As a result, Kurt Sutter, the show’s creator and never one to mince words, took to Twitter to send fans a long apology, filled with explosives.

“It has been brought to my attention that our SOA Collector's Edition Book has been sent out a week early by some distributors and book outlets. This book contains details about the final episode of the series,” Sutter wrote. “This, my friends is a storyteller's worst nightmare.”

He said that the book was meant to be a compliment to the show, with photos, behind-the-scenes details and episode breakdowns. “It's a smart, well-conceived book that I was very excited for the fans to have. AFTER the motherf***ing finale,” he wrote.

Sutter was clearly annoyed, but didn’t put the blame on anyone specifically, other than himself.

“It was my idea for the book, so ultimately, I am to blame. So if you received a book, I apologize. I ask that you not share your wrath or pain or opinion in social media so as to not spoil the experience of others. There is no excuse for utter ineptitude. It pains me that this will be the parting memory of some fans. I hope you all tune in for the finale,” he concluded. “It plays much better than it reads.”

The book was published by Time Home Entertainment, which told Variety that the book had a “very strict embargo in place” and wasn’t supposed to be on sale until Wednesday. “While extremely disappointed, we are very proud of the book, which is a wonderful tribute to the show,” the publisher said.

Sons of Anarchy, which stars Charlie Hunnam, concludes its run on Tuesday at 10 p.m. Katey Sagal won a Golden Globe for her role on the show in 2011.
