Unfortunately for his fans, it has been announced that Stephen Colbert will not start his new gig at CBS until the summer.

According to a source that told The LA Times, the new late-night host probably won’t air his new show until late August or September.

Recently, the network announced that David Letterman will host his last edition of The Late Show on May 20, 2015. Colbert’s final episode of Comedy Central’s The Colbert Report will air on Dec. 18, 2014.

Since it was announced that Colbert would be taking over Letterman’s show, fans are anticipating that he will bring to the late night gig with a brand new persona.

"Simply being a guest on David Letterman's show has been a highlight of my career," Colbert said in a statement to Deadline. "I never dreamed that I would follow in his footsteps, though everyone in late night follows Dave's lead. I'm thrilled and grateful that CBS chose me. Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to go grind a gap in my front teeth."

The eight-month hiatus will give Colbert and the CBS crew a chance to get the show ready with hiring a staff, refurbishing their equipment and building a new set in the Ed Sullivan Theater, The Times said.

The date of Colbert’s premiere is to be announced in early January.
