The episode starts with Dean’s dream where he is dirty and murderous. He is kneeling in the middle of the room surrounded by dead bodies.

But we’ll get back to that later cause now we turn our focus to Castiel. In a previous episode, Castiel began researching his vessel Jimmy Novak. Now he has found his daughter, Claire, who is currently in trouble at a group home. Claire thinks Cas is bringing her father back to her, but unfortunately he can’t because Jimmy is dead and in heaven. And since her mother left not soon after Cas took Jimmy, all that’s left now for Claire is the group home.

So feeling responsible for Claire’s situation, Cas tries to gain custody over Claire but they deny his application. All that’s left for Cas to do now is break Claire out, but once he does, she runs away from him. So Cas calls the Winchesters to help him track her down. While Sam gets some clues from the group home, Dean and Cas do some bonding in the restaurant. When the Mark of Cain comes up in conversation, Dean asks Cas to promise to kill him if he goes darkside, saying he "can't go down that road again.”

Across town, Claire’s new family, Dustin and Randy, are strapped for cash, and Randy’s bookie is coming to collect fairly soon. So since Claire is still under 18, she’s tasked with going out to rob a convenience store. Luckily the guys catch her before she does something stupid. And after quickly telling Cas and the Winchesters to piss off, she heads back to her new family without the much needed cash.

So to cool off a bit, the boys take Cas to a bar to tell him stories of their dad. Dean tells them of a time they went to New York and Dean snuck out to get drunk. He was caught by John and was obviously pissed that his dad had embarrassed him but as John said, "It's not my job to be liked. It's my job to raise you right."

This leads Cas to ask the boys if they think Claire is in trouble, which of course they do. The boys head to Randy’s, showing up just in time as he has just sold Claire to pay his debt to the bookie. Cas and Sam get Claire out, but Dean stays behind. One of the guys hits him over the head with a bottle, and unknowingly unleashes the dark side of Dean. When Sam, Cas and Claire come back into the house it appears Dean’s dream from earlier in the episode has come to life as he is surrounded by the dead corpses of the men. Sam pleas for Dean to tell him he had to do it, that it was “him or them,” but we all know the truth.

In other Supernatural news, Crowley and his mother have finally had a chance to hash out their feelings and clear the air. Rowena has her cellmate lie and say that Gerald is smuggling souls up from hell, winning her a little favor with her son, who kills Gerald, and lets his mother free from her cell. We shall see what this pair has in store for us when Supernatural returns January 20th on The CW.
