When Damon compels Alaric to obtain the ascendant from Jo in order to rescue Bonnie, Alaric goes to great lengths to get it.

Meanwhile, Elena discloses to her brother, Jeremy, that Bonnie could be brought back, but Jeremy is quick to question Elena's trust in Damon to bring Bonnie back.

Liv gets away from Tyler long enough to help Elena and Damon at the cemetery with a spell to rescue Bonnie. Elena and Damon consume Liv's blood before Liv sends them back to May of 1994.

Back in the present, Kai returns to the present with some killer instincts as he rummages through his pockets to pay for the taxi cab fare.

In the past, Damon reintroduces the pager to Elena, so that he can contact Kai. Now what? Damon says we shall wait like a 13-year-old girl by the phone until Kai calls us back. Oh goodie.

Elsewhere, Matt introduces a long-lost Salvatore member to Stefan. However, Stefan has a right to be suspicious of this newest family member.

Instead of a call from Kai, Damon and Elena receive a call on the payphone from Bonnie, who is six hours away in Indiana from Mystic Falls. Will she make it on time before Elena and Damon return to the present?

While tending the the bar, Liv receives a visit from Kai, who recognizes his sister, yet Liv doesn't recognize Kai. With a fight brewing, who will win this battle?

When Jo busts into Alaric's office to demand where the ascendant is located, Alaric looks genuinely surprised since Damon had compelled him to forget his task.

Back in 1994, Elena and Damon enjoy each other's company with pancakes. Still unsure why Jo would give Damon the ascendant, Elena learns of Damon's compulsion and thinks that Damon is trying to get Bonnie back to win Elena over.

Nevertheless, Damon explains to Elena that spending time with Bonnie had given hope for him to return to Mystic Falls to reunite with Elena. Just when Elena starts to patch her feelings back up for Damon, the two are sucked back to present day before Bonnie comes back.

Will Bonnie ever have another chance of seeing her loved ones again?
