The Minnesota Timberwolves traded veteran Corey Brewer to the Houston Rockets on Friday.

Timberwolves forward Ronny Turiaf is also going to the Rockets as part of the trade. However the Rockets are trying to send Turiaf to another team. Turiaf had surgery on his right hip recently and will be out for the rest of the season. The Rockets are sending guard Troy Daniels to the Timberwolves and are giving them a 2015 second-round draft pick, a future second-round pick, and cash, according to Yahoo Sports, which first reported the trade.

The Rockets used their trade exemption from the Jeremy Lin trade to acquire Brewer.

Brewer has a one year player option worth $4.9 million left on his contract. He had requested that he go to a contending team and was willing to waive his player option. This season he has averaged 10.5 points, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.3 steals with the Timberwolves, according to ESPN. He has averaged ten points, and three rebounds per game in his career.

The trade will save the Timberwolves about $5 million. It will also give Shabazz Muhammad more playing time. Brewer will play behind starter Trevor Ariza.
