With Thanksgiving over, new flavors are replacing the popular fall flavors of pumpkin and cranberry. One of these is gingerbread, which is among the most popular smells and tastes during the holiday season. Spiced but sweet, this flavor can be found in cookies shaped like men, drinks at coffee shops or even shower gel.
According to PBS, gingerbread has a long history, which started with the ancient Chinese harvesting ginger. Although many connect this food with Germany, the oldest recipe came from Greece in 2400 BC. Not until the Middle Ages did the rest of Europe begin to incorporate this spice.
Now many cultures enjoy the ginger spice especially in connection with the Christmas season. Not only is it delicious, there are also many health benefits. Health Diaries lists that ginger’s benefits include helping treat ovarian cancer, reducing morning sickness and providing relief for migraines.
Gingerbread cookies, candles and drinks are a major part of December. Right in time for Christmas, here are some delicious recipes for interesting and tasty ways to use gingerbread.
