The last episode of Criminal Minds had the team looking for an unsub who killed a security guard and a couple. At first, they aren’t sure of a connection until Garcia discovers the name of a criminal who is on the run named Amelia Porter.
Porter was accused of the rape and murder of a woman named Miriam, the sister of Amelia’s lover, Benton Farland. Benton, who helped to kill his sister, actually was released from prison right before the murders, so the team begins looking for them.
As the case goes on, we see Benton is with his niece and nephew, who he kidnapped after killing their grandfather. In an attempt to protect his sister, Becca, Andy tries to act like he will help Benton.
Meanwhile, Aaron is newly single as he and Beth broke up since Aaron encouraged her to “spread her wings” when a career opportunity arose. Dave invites him to a jazz club as his wingman, since he is interested in a jazz singer there.

The unsub in this case is Benton Farland, a man who had been put away for the rape and murder of a girl named Miriam, who was his older sister. He takes Andy and Becca with him, who are actually Miriam’s children. While it appears Andy is helping him, he is only protecting Becca.

Aaron tells Dave early in the episode that he and Beth broke up because he encouraged her to take a job in Hong Kong. Dave wants to see his friend happy and suggests he come with him to a jazz club since he is interested in the singer. Aaron is reluctant but eventually agrees, since it’s better than online dating.

The team discovers Benton went to his father’s home, where his niece and nephew, Andy and Becca lived. By looking at the scene, they realize Benton probably had a tense family dinner with them before something that happened that caused Benton to stab his father to death before taking the kids hostage. Garcia also informs them that Benton was in contact with Andy in prison.

When Benton falls asleep in the car, Andy crashes the car in an attempt to rescue Becca from him. However, Benton wakes up and shoots Andy before kidnapping Becca and leaving him for dead.

Andy is in the hospital after surviving the shooting and he tells Callahan and Morgan that he only pretended to help Benton to protect Becca. He informs them that they are headed to his friend’s vacation cabin and pleads with them to find his sister.

5. Becca
In an attempt to stay alive when Benton takes her hostage, Becca tries to empathize with him, but Benton doesn’t believe her, feeling she will betray him the first chance that she gets. Becca is unsure of where they are going and Benton ends up taking her to the home of Amelia Porter, who had been in hiding for over a decade since Becca’s mom was killed.

As the team are heading to where they believe Amelia Porter is, they discuss the case before realizing that Amelia may actually not have been the dominate partner and was most likely manipulated herself. She had been described, by her own family, as being naïve whereas only Benton ever said she was a manipulator.

3. Arrest
As Benton is attempting to convince Amelia to kill Rebecca, who he wants to kill in order to relive killing her mother, she is in tears as she says no. The team makes it in time but Benton points a gun at Becca and grabs her. Reid tries to talk him down by saying they are after Amelia and he reveals Andy is alive. When Amelia tries to run off, Benton shoots and kills himself.

This scene didn’t have dialogue, but as music played in the background, we saw Becca and Andy have a tearful reunion in the hospital.

1. Jazz club
Aaron and Dave have a good time at the club, where they watch the singer Dave is interested in. Eventually, she brings her friend over and after some flirting, Dave goes to the bar while the singer’s friend stays to talk to Aaron to ask about seeing the sights. Aaron, who looks absolutely handsome and adorable at the same time, tells her about his favorite spots that aren’t some of the usual places people would visit.
