Ichabod awakes after the explosion and sees Moloch’s head on the ground. He finds Abbie right next to him and they find Katrina and Jenny. Henry is nowhere to be found.
Six weeks later, Ichabod and Abbie are at a farmer’s market. Ichabod finds rotten fruit and this gives him a bad feeling that evil could still be at large. Abbie tries to convince him otherwise. In the Archives, Ichabod has developed a theory between rotten fruit, dead livestock and inhuman voices. Ichabod says they now have a trail of clues to follow. They also discuss the problems with Katrina and how Ichabod is ‘reexamining’ his marriage with Katrina. They have not spoken in weeks.
They arrive at Wilcox Farms and do not find anything evil. Abbie and Ichabod discuss what they would do if they actually stopped the Apocalypse from happening and if their job as witnesses was finally over. They would have to reinvent themselves and Ichabod would have to discover a new purpose. They hear inhuman voices coming from the barn. They find demons searching for someone and Ichabod and Abbie confront them. They prepare to fight them when an angel flies down, killing one of the demons. “I’m Orion…are you friend of foe?” he says as Ichabod and Abbie look on in shock. Orion knows who they are. Orion reveals that he was a prisoner in purgatory and that when Moloch died, many evil creatures escaped Purgatory. Ichabod gets a text from Katrina and leaves to talk with her while Abbie stays with Orion.
Katrina is with Abraham who is being held captive. Katrina feels responsible for what happened to Abraham and she wants to repair him. Abraham wants nothing to do with her. Ichabod arrives and after they exchange pleasantries, Katrina asks for his help. She thinks she has found a way to separate Abraham from the Horseman of Death. Ichabod seems skeptical to help but Katrina begs him. Ichabod says this is something they should be very cautious about doing and Katrina says if he will not help, then she will continue on this alone.
Orion reveals to Abbie that he was a prisoner in Purgatory for over 200 years. Abbie is curious about the larger questions and the meaning of life but Orion is giving her very shady and non-conclusive answers. Jenny calls Abbie from the bar and Abbie enlightens her on what is going on. Orion says that these creatures who have escaped are looking for a new master to pledge their allegiance to…The Horseman of Death. Abbie tells him they have him as their prisoner. Orion wants to be taken to him so he can destroy him.
Nick meets up with Jenny at the bar. He arrives with an egg that is a demon tracking device that they can use to find the demons. Orion and Abbie arrive to The Archives. Orion gives Abbie a charm and tells her to use it and think of him if she ever needs him. Abbie tells Ichabod Orion can kill The Horseman, while Ichabod tells Abbie Katrina’s plan to separate Abraham from the evil spirit. Ichabod pleads with Abbie to at least let Katrina try and save Abraham.
Katrina asks Abraham if she can try the enchantment on him to try and save him. Abraham agrees, he hopes for a chance to be human again. Katrina tells him that the angel Orion is here and means to bring him harm. They arrive at the chamber and discover that Katrina has released Abraham. Orion is upset and leaves while Ichabod, Abbie and Katrina argue about what to do next. Abbie says they must find Abraham and bring him back and Katrina can try and save Abraham from the evil spirit.
The next morning Nick and Jenny are still on the hunt for demons. They discuss their past relationship and then Nick shatters the egg and he finds a ball they can use to find the demons. They see that The Horseman is with the demons. Jenny tells Abbie that the demons are with The Horseman and Abbie uses the charm and Orion appears. Abbie says Ichabod has personal feelings mixed up with this but Abbie is ready to take out The Horseman. Ichabod calls Abbie with a warning about Orion. He has sources that says he arrived weeks before great catastrophes and Ichabod is unsure whether he was there to stop these events or bring them about.
Orion says his weapon will end The Horseman and he is going to inherit The Horseman’s power. Abbie starts to realize that Orion might not have the best intentions and Orion claims he is going to cleanse humanity. Orion arrives just as The Horseman gets his axe and the two begin to fight. Abbie and Ichabod begin battling demons and they defeat the demons while The Horseman and Orion are fighting inside. Orion’s blade stabs The Horseman in the back and begins to take his power.
Abbie arrives and distracts Orion while Ichabod sneaks behind him and picks up The Horseman’s axe. He uses the axe to remove Orion’s blade from The Horseman’s back and then destroys Orion’s blade. Orion is furious and betrayed and flees the house. Ichabod pleads with The Horseman to let Katrina try and save him. Abraham wants Katrina to try and make him the man he was before.
Ichabod and Katrina have an emotional conversation where Ichabod says they must redefine their marriage. “One small step a time” Ichabod responds before he leaves. Ichabod and Abbie exchange apologizes at the police station and realize that their war is not over. They know their bond cannot be broken. Abbie looks at Orion’s charm.
We see a man walk into a gas station and immediately grab a gallon of milk and start drinking. We see that it is Frank Irving who appears to have survived. He asks if he is in heaven or hell and the attendant replies with…”It’s Sleepy Hollow.”
