Over the past few weeks, we’ve counted down some of the best romantic moments shared between our Once Upon a Time couples, whether you ship them or not.
Last week’s Rumbelle list seems to be the favorite so far. It makes sense. Despite the excitement of newer couples such as CaptainSwan and OutlawQueen, the relationship between Rumpelstiltskin and Belle is part of the foundation of the entire Once Upon a Time story. As with any show that has multiple main characters, it’s arguable whose story is being told. One thing we can all agree on, though, is that it wouldn’t be Once Upon a Time without Snow White and Prince Charming, also known as Snowing.
What makes Snow White and Prince Charming so iconic? The idea that once true love is found it doesn’t require any work to have a happy and successful relationship is enticing. The notion of being rescued from our mundane and stressful lives is also appealing. The pursuit of the interminably fleeting idea of “happily ever after,” seems ingrained in the human psyche, even though we know it’s unattainable. Regardless of feminist arguments against the promotion of men rescuing women, that is exactly what many women desire…not at the expense of their individuation mind you, but being rescued remains desirable. Snow White and Prince Charming, along with their Disneyfied counterparts such as Cinderella, are the epitome of just such an escape.
Once Upon a Time’s 'Snowing', however, heroically presents this couple in a new, more relatable and realistic way. Their love may be true, but it hasn’t been easy. Love for them has had to wade through the mire of lies, confusion, insecurity, manipulation, and countless other environmental factors that we face today. They don’t have an automatic “happily ever after.” Like us, they have to work at it.
Of all the ways the moments shared by this amazing couple could be organized, displaying the characteristics that have allowed them to maintain a successful relationship seemed best. There are so many must-see clips that they have been grouped by characteristic, and within each grouping they are presented in chronological order. It may seem confusing, but it will be enjoyable all the same. So, without further ado, here are the top ten qualities of Snow White and Prince Charming.
