A fight broke out during a women's basketball game featuring the University of Alabama and Auburn University Jan. 23.
With just over a minute remaining in the first half, Auburn’s Hasina Muhammad and Alabama's Breanna Hayden got into an altercation after a free throw. The two exchanged punches and were ejected along with Meoshonti Knight of Alabama for leaving the bench, according to the New York Post.
“I have no idea what completely happened, but BreBre (Hayden) apologized to her team immediately after that and knew that she had made a mistake,” Alabama coach Kristy Curry said. “So again, I’ll have to go back and evaluate.”
Both Muhammad and Hayden have been suspended for two games each according to the New York Times.
“You’re always disappointed in situations like that,” Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy said. “You never want to see either player from either side ejected from the game. This is the game that they love, the game that they practice to play, and so you never want that to happen.”
Alabama went on to defeat its rival at home, 51-50.
