Amanda Peet and her husband, David Benioff, are both getting paychecks from HBO, but that almost never happened. Had Benioff listened to his wife, Game of Thrones may have never reached television.

While on Conan O’Brien’s show earlier this week, Peet admitted that she told Benioff taking George R.R. Martin’s books to television was a bad idea.

“Yes, I thought it was a terrible idea. Terrible,” she told Conan.

When asked what she thought was so bad about it, she explained that it sounded like Dungeons and Dragons to her.

“Just silly. It’s like Dungeons and Dragons, but real with real people,” she said.

Conan later said that he actually understands what she’s saying because he would have turned down other great ideas for TV shows. Great Conan. Now we know why you’re not a TV executive.

Now, Peet is obsessed with the show, so when she visits Benioff’s office, she tries to avoid looking at storyboards.

Peet also stars on an HBO show, appearing in the new series from Mark and Jay Duplass, Togetherness, which was renewed for a second season. The new season of Game of Thrones starts on April 12.
